Ms. Carrie Langbo, MS, CGC

Ms. Carrie Langbo, MS, CGC, is currently the BioTrust Coordinator at the Michigan Department of Community Health. As the Biotrust Coordinator, she helps oversee the policies and procedures of Michigan’s Dried Blood Spots by working to improve the preservation and utility of residual dried blood spots from newborn screening (NBS).

Ms. Carrie Langbo graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, she went on to purse a Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Michigan Department of Community Health in 2004, she worked as a Genetic Counselor for 6 years in the areas of reproductive and oncology health.

Aside from helping facilitate the 5 million dried blood spots at Michigan’s Biobank, she has also helped with the improvement and revision of Michigan’s consent brochure and consent form for parents. In addition, in an effort to improve community engagement, she holds National Conversations of newborn screening research and informed consent. Ms. Langbo’s work interests also include newborn screening for cystic fibrosis. Ms. Langbo has also assisted in numerous publications in various areas of newborn screening. In 2013, she assisted in the publication, “From Newborn Screening to Population Health Research: Implementation of the Michigan BioTrust for Health,” which described the implementation process of Michigan’s BioTrust and its impact on Newborn Screening.
