"The Medical Home is Vital for Quality Newborn Screening" by: R. Rodney Howell, M.D.

R. Rodney Howell, M. D. is Professor of Pediatrics and Chairman Emeritus, at the Miller School of Medicine of the University of Miami in Florida.  He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, as well as the American Board of Medical Genetics in the area of Clinical Biochemical Genetics. In March 2012 Howell was the recipient of the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Rodney Howell published an article for Pediatric News concerning education, newborn screening, medical home and pediatrics. Dr. Howell provides a background of the Recommended Uniform Newborn Screening panel and the success of the public health initiative of newborn screening. He also encourages a strong presence of pediatricians and the medical home in managing the care of infants with genetic disorders in order to continue the success public health program of newborn screening.
