Research and Development Opportunity in Newborn Screening

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released a Research and Development opportunity for any qualified institute interested in doing biotechnology research in Newborn Screening. As stated in the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act,  NIH has been asked to “continue carrying out, coordinating, and expanding research in newborn screening—including identifying, developing, and testing the most promising new screening technologies.” The awardee of the project will have the opportunity to make use of resources that are part of NICHD’s Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN), such as a repository of de-identified screening results.

A formal capability statement that remarks upon the applicant’s experience and ability is required. To see if your organization fits the requirements for the Pilot Newborn Screening Studies solicitation, you can read the full FedBizOps piece. You can read more about research in Newborn Screening on the NBSTRN About Newborn Screening page.
