Texas Announces NBS Clinic for Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders

In May 2011 the Sectary Advisory Committee for Heritable Disorders of Newborns and Children's (SACHDNC) recommendation to add Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP) was accepted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Over the past year states have begun to implement and add SCID their own state newborn screening panel. As of December 1st, 2012 Texas is one of the states that is now screening for SCID. Not only is Texas now screening for SCID, but the Newborn Primary Immunodeficiency Disorder (PIDD) Screening Clinic was recently announced at Texas Children’s Hospital. Children diagnosed with immunodeficiency’s disorders, including SCID, in Texas will now be referred for follow-up to Texas Children’s Hospital for confirmed diagnosis and treatment. Full Press Release for Texas Children’s Hospital Announces Newborn Screening Clinic for Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders
